Thanks for stopping by the site. Be sure to check back regularly for updates and news on what's happening with my training and upcoming bouts.
This site features several pages which may be of interest. Among them is a news/blog page which I update personally on a regular basis. Generally, I post interesting news and event updates and sometimes a little of my own opinion about them as well. Also, there is information about my training and personal life. Don’t forget to check out the picture gallery as well!
For those who don't keep up with the news, I fought John Howard at UFC 94. It is always disappointing to suffer a defeat. In this case it drops me down the ladder in the UFC a bit, but perhaps not as much as it might have since we got a fight-of-the-night bonus. The UFC routinely gives out bonuses for the best knockout or submission of the night as well as for the best performance overall at the event. That accolade doesn't completely offset the ill-effects of a loss but it certainly shows some worth to the company. This loss isn't a situation that can't be remedied with some commanding performances and that is exactly what I intend to provide.
After some time off for reflection and relaxation it's time to put the gears in motion again. Now based out of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, I will continue training at the Nogueira brother's gym in preparation for my upcoming bout with Josh Koscheck. Josh is also coming off a loss where he suffered a TKO at the hands of the unheralded but dangerous Paulo Thiago. He will need the win as badly as I do so I expect a non-stop fight. I don't like to rely too heavily on past performances because you can never guarantee what your opponent will do but if my Spidey-sense is on point, Josh will look to get the takedown and pound away from the top. The UFC told me that I cannot bring a gun or a knife or that blinding powder that Bolo used on Van Damme in Bloodsport. So it looks like the gameplan will be centered around actual fighting skills.
Despite Josh's recent success with his kickboxing, aside from his last fight, I believe he will be weary of trading with me for very long. Josh knows he's a great wrestler and he also knows that I do my best work when my legs are underneath me. All three of my fights in the UFC have been characterized by my opponents trying to take me down repeatedly. I suspect Josh will be no different. This fight is slated for the PPV for a good reason. They know I will not accept being held down and they know that Josh can't afford another loss but may not be able to handle the striking. It has "fight of the night" written all over it and I plan to do my part to help send Kos packing.
Don't miss the fights on May 23rd in Las Vegas. It's going to be unforgettable!
